When looking for jobs online make sure your resume is ready
After you’ve written a proper resume, your next step is to ensure it gets into the right hands. After all, many a resume have never made it past company mailrooms. Electronic job boards ensure the red taped is bypassed and resumes land in the inboxes of those responsible for filling the position.
Monster.com – One of the world’s leading job market boards, Monster defined electronic job hunting. Its search capabilities are a breeze and you’re able to build a profile and upload your job resume. It also allows you to develop a resume cover letter that will be forwarded to potential employers.
CareerBuilder.com – At any given time, this site offers over 1.5 million available jobs. It’s second in popularity only to Monster.com. You can also opt-in to have jobs emailed to you on a daily basis.
Jobs.com – This is yet another full-service site that allows job seekers to provide resume distribution and keep an eye on current employment trends. This is especially beneficial if you’re searching to find out which state has the best nursing, teaching or engineering, etc. positions.
HotJobs.Yahoo.com – The popular search engine has an extensive number of available positions. It offers an easy way to conduct searches and allows you to narrow down the results for even more specific openings.
USAJobs.gov- The government’s national job bank has links to local, state and federal positions as well as private companies in need of qualified applicants. This is also a great source to follow trends.
Craigslist.com – Although many are discouraged by the Craigslist format, there are many who have landed fantastic positions via these job boards.
Google.com/Jobs -Similar to Yahoo, Google also has its own version of a career center. You can browse all of the jobs on this site prior to creating a profile. This is also an excellent resource for international jobs.
Jobs.net – Although not as well known as some of its competitors, this is a fast rising site that offers career advice, advice for writing a resume and of course, a listing of over 50,000 jobs.
JobMarket.NYTimes.com – If you’re in the northeast United States, this is an excellent resource to incorporate during your job hunt. It’s streamlined and easy to use.
Your Local Classifieds – Nearly every newspaper now has its own website, with a few exceptions that might include small town weekly newspapers. As such, their classifieds and “Help Wanted” ads are available in electronic format too. Many offer a platform for job seekers to upload their resumes. What’s so great about one’s local classifieds is you know any openings are in your own hometown.
